Join us for Prayer40: forty days of continuous, 24/7 prayer in All Saints Chapel from October 4-November 15.
Together we will "pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers…" (Matthew 9:38) and consecrate this next season at Resurrection to him.
Prayer40 provides opportunities for everyone in the church to pray. Even if you've never been to a prayer meeting in your life, please plan to participate in Prayer40. It is a commitment you won't regret!
A little over a year ago, Resurrection began its first 24/7 prayer initiative: Prayer100. Beginning January 12th, 2014 and continuing 100 days until Easter Sunday of 2014, intercessors gathered in the transformed All Saints Chapel, praying without ceasing for the kingdom to come into our lives, our church, our nation, our world. You can see some testimonies of transformation in that concerted time of prayer.
As a result of that time, Resurrection is planting a church in Aurora. Read more about that process here.
There are many ways to get involved in Prayer40! Signing up for a prayer slot(s), inviting friends and family to pray with you for an hour, attending a Daily Office service, praying during the Night Watch, participating in a RezPrayer Gathering, praying through the prayer requests on the Prayer40 page of your Sunday bulletin on your way to work or when the kids are napping—all of these are great ways to participate!
We also have available in All Saints Chapel and at the RezConnect table prayer request cards for your use. You can fill them out with your own prayer request, or that you can give to neighbors, friends, family to invite them to give their needs to us to pray through during this season. These cards will be displayed in our prayer room, and they will be lifted in prayer by many.
One hour, twenty-four times a day, for forty days. Some slots will be set aside for corporate prayer (Daily Office or RezPrayer Gatherings) but the majority of the time, the fire of intercession will be passed like a baton hour to hour from people who have committed to pray. It is a time to meet and draw near to the Lord, and also a time of radical community, where we set our hearts on a pilgrimage together, and as a body, carry out the kingdom work of continuous prayer.
Pray corporately the way the Church has for two millennia: by praying the psalms and the Scriptures together. This service will include Scripture readings, canticles of praise, individual intercessions and times for personal reflection. During Prayer40, we will have three of the offices: 7:30 AM (Morning Prayer) 12:15 PM (Noonday Prayer) and 5:30 PM (Evening Prayer). These are short services that don't last the whole hour, so no sign up is necessary!
We still need a pray-er to stay the entire hour during the times when daily office is taking place, so consider signing up for one of the hour slots when daily office occurs and keep our prayers going until the next person arrives.
The Night Watch at Resurrection covers the hours from 9pm to 7am, with intercessors covering prayer slots throughout the night and early morning. The Night Watch mandate is drawn from Psalm 134: "Behold, bless the LORD, all you servants of the LORD, who by night stand in the house of the LORD! Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the LORD." They are a special community, who fast an hour or more of sleep, to linger with the Lord.
Sign up to keep the fire of intercession burning during the evening hours.
Come together to intercede for issues close to the heart of Resurrection.
On Monday evenings, we will gather to lift the needs of our church and our community to the Lord. Here are the dates and topics of this weekly gathering:
October 12th - Children and Youth
October 19th - Local Mission (Replanted, Sanctity of Life, New Name, Refugee Ministry)
October 26th - Wheaton College
November 2nd - Moved by Jesus
November 9th - Global Mission (Resurrection Missionaries, Global Partnerships)
On Saturday afternoons, from 2PM - 4PM, we will be gathering to pray using a form called "Harp and Bowl." This prayer format is based on the heavenly picture that we see in Revelation 5, which speaks of the harp and the bowl—combining worship and prayer. While the Monday prayer gatherings are more focused on intercession, this gathering will be more devotional. Whether or not you have every prayed using this method, you are more then welcome to join!
No sign up is necessary for either gathering—just show up and bring a friend!
Prayer40 resources are available now in the Rez library in all Saints Chapel, including devotional materials, books on prayer and spiritual growth, and Daily Prayer booklets with Scripture readings for Oct-Nov. If you still have a book checked out during Prayer100, please return it to Rez library.
